The horseshoe is the name of an infamously gluttonous and highly localized culinary delicacy borne in his hometown. In essence, it is an open-faced hamburger sandwich. It starts off with a slice of white toast on the ground floor, with a single hamburger patty on top. On top of that is a liberal application of fries, and the final touch is a slathering of cheddar cheese sauce. Some variations use chicken patties in lieu of hamburger, and cheese sauces of a spicier variety.
In blog form, the idea is to create a rich literary experience encompassing obscure corners of the Midwestern culture. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, one thing piled on another.

Quite so!
I lived next to this park for many years; right up to my leaving for college. I would often make laps in the park, over and over. It was neat seeing all these little scenes playing out.
I think I was blessed for having such a good vantage point.
